.::A Night at the Oscars
by
Matthew
on Sun 27 Feb 2005 08:56 PM PST

So tonight is the Academy Awards and I am just amazed about
all of the hub-bub that surrounds the night. I can't imagine how much
money was spent on the production, set design, dresses, tuxedos, parties,
limousines, etc. Probably it numbers in the millions, or even hundreds of
millions of dollars. And for what? A couples of movies.
Now
I am as guilty as the next person for watching the Oscars and all of that, but
I think of things like “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is a shining
light where Hollywood takes some
of its power and does something right and makes a difference for a
family.
But
couldn’t we just go without all of the parties, dresses, awards, etc. and let
the movies speak for themselves rather then letting a few elite people tell us
what the best movie of who the best actor or actresses are? I hope so.
Now
don’t get me wrong, I love a great movie, just like the next person.
Movies are a tremendously powerful way to tell a story. Stories are such
an integral part of our lives. Where would we be without the stories that
Jesus told to help explain who God is and what heaven is like? Who would
we be without the stories of God’s faithfulness to Israel
throughout the Old Testament?

Faith Development Camp High School Students
Grades 9-12
July 8-14, 2007
Daybreak Camp · Cost= About $200
Faith Development Camp is a week to bring students in touch with the
power of God through Jesus Christ. Everything at FDC strives to
challenge youth to develop their faith. The Bible can be confusing, and
discerning God's call for our lives in this hectic world can be
difficult at times. At FDC prayer muscles will be stretched and
challenged as you lean on God for everything in your life. Our worship
times are amazing experiences that give you the opportunity to come
face to face with God.
Wildside Camp Junior High School Students
Grades 6-8
July 15-20, 2007
Daybreak Camp · Cost= About $200
Wildside is the junior high session of Faith Development Camp. The
purpose of Wildside is to better equip and prepare students for their
walk with Christ by giving them opportunities to discover who God is
and what he does in their lives. Through our educational modules, quiet
times, meadow times, prayers, and encounters we will look at how we as
Christians are to be faithful, righteous, and can have a better life
through the spirit.
Wildwood Camp @ Hume Lake High School Students
Grades 9-12
June 24-20, 2007
Hume Lake Christian Camp · Cost= About $275
Wildwood is Hume Lake's discipleship camp for students who wish to push
themselves beyond the familiar into a world of exceptional devotion to
God. Wildwood's philosophy of stripping away the layers of falsehood
and distraction is evidenced in daily interactions and candid
discussions about student's lives, struggles, and answering God's call
for deeper devotion to Him. Set in the back forests of Hume's property,
Wildwood emphasizes overcoming obstacles and learning to discipline
oneself in response to the challenges of life.

//It's My Birthday
by
Matthew
on Tue 15 Feb 2005 01:55 PM PST
Well today is my Birthday and I am loving it. It
seems that on days like this a person takes inventory of what they have, how
the last year was and what lies ahead. As I have done that, I have so
much to be thankful for. I have a wife that loves me, two wonderful
girls, we are all healthy and happy. God is good . . . all the time, and
all the time . . . God is good.
It has also been a great year for my own personal journey of
faith, while it has had some rough patches, it has been really, really, powerful.
God was tremendously faithful through those difficult times of my faith. And while I do not like going through those
times in my faith, I do appreciate looking back at those times in my rear view
mirror. I get a tremendous sense of
comfort from knowing that God was
faithful through those cruddy parts of my journey.
IT has for us as a family as well. We have had some grand adventures over this
past year, from seeing Madeline learn to ride a two wheeler and Abby learning
to read Green Eggs and Ham. So as I look
forward on my 38th year of life, I look forward to some great
vacations that I have planned with my family teaching the girls how to ski next
week, some time away over spring break, and going somewhere on another grand
adventure this summer. I look forward to
Abby finally getting the hang of riding a two-wheeler.
God is GOOD.

Happy SPAMentine's Day!
by
Matthew
on Mon 14 Feb 2005 12:55 PM PST
No, this isn't about unwanted e-mail. In putting together a lesson for The Edge this past week, I came across
this picture of SPAM & Ketchup that fit the theme of Valentines
Day. I hope you enjoy it:

You might hate Valentines Day because you think it is one of those
corporate holidays manufactured by Greeting Card & Flower
Corporations to get your money, but know this one thing, God loves you
in ways that you can't even fathom.
We all know that John 3:16 says, "For God so loved (agape) the world, that He gave His on and only Son..."
That word for love, agape, speaks of an unconditional love. A
love that you and I did nothing to receive, nothing to earn. We
receive this love from God because of who God is. The song from
Casting Crowns, "Who am I?" really communicats this well. It
says, "Not because of what I've done, but because of who you are, Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done."
So know this one thing this Valentine's Day, GOD LOVES YOU . . . PERIOD! So let Him be your Valentine today.
