I couldn’t help but be moved by Sunday's mission presentation. My heart broke for the young people who are left to fend for themselves on the streets because their parents can’t afford ot feed them? Teens the same age as you in The Zone Student Ministry. Teens left to find their own meals. Teens left to find their own shelter. Teens forced to grow up before they ought to.
So when we started to give towards a swingset for the mission trip last December, I was excited to be a part of a mission trip that I couldn’t go on, but I could still be a part of it in some small way.
You may think that a playground is not that big of a deal, but it is. This is the first free playground in the area. Here is a REFUGE for teens and families to come and let their kids play and be kids. Here is a palce where a child who may be too poor to have any toys can swing, climb and crawl and enjoy life for a little while.
Tears came to my eyes when I heard that the members of the team had to TEACH the Kenyans how to swing and use the equpiment. Why was I moved? It seems like those are things that we have always known how to do, and here are 15-20 year old people who don’t know how to swing that have to learn. What a great opportunity to see someone experience that for the first time in their life!
The work that God is doing with the Made in the Streets Ministry is HUGE! Can you imagine helping homeless pre-teen and teens have a home, learn sellable skills, and begin a life on their own?
What an amazing ministry to be a part of! I am so thankful that we are a part of this HUGE work as a congregation.
OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: DURING THE MONTH OF APRIL Student Ministry is going to be taking a collection during the Junior High and High School Bible classes, The Edge and Cross Training to go towards the work of Made in the Streets. We are challenging each and every member of The Zone Student Ministry to donate and give at least $10 towards this effort. You can save some of your allowance, babysitting money or paycheck. You might want to do some extra chores around the house. You might just go without Starbucks or Taco Bell for the month of April and donate what you would have spent towards this. If everyone in Student Minstry donated at least $10 we would rasie over $1000 for Made in the Streets! Can you imagine what God could do with $1000! That would be truly awesome! Help make a difference in an important part of the world.
