Hey, you might have missed it this weekend, but in London, leaders from
the eight most prosperous industrialized nations (The G8) agreed to
forgive almost $55 Billion in debt to many sub Saharan and Central
American countries in an attempt to help them divert funds that they
need to use for loan repayment towards necessary healthcare and helping
to fight the AIDS pandemic. You can read more by
CLICKING HERE.
This is a HUGE First Step in helping eradicate poverty and taking care of the AIDS pandemic!!!
Here is what you can do to help make a difference this week:
1. Write the President a letter telling him "Great Job" in forgiving the debt. I know that leaders need to hear when they are doing something right. Here is the address:
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
If you want to e-mail President Bush you can do so at: president@whitehouse.gov If you write a letter with a stamp and everything, you will probably get a letter back. How cool would that be?
2. Go to www.one.org
and put your name on the One Declaration
to tell world leaders to
continue to work towards eradicating poverty from the planet. One
voice is not that loud, but one million voices joining in unison is
really, really LOUD!
If
you don't join your voice, then the voice will be that much
quieter. It doesn't cost you anything but five minutes of your
time.
3. Go to http://www.live8live.com and check out what others are doing to help in this fight.
The church has to be a part of helping, caring and serving the poor of
the world. If we don't then what good are we?
