So when I travel, one of the annoying things is getting used to where channels are in whatever hotel or place I happen to be staying are.  I also have to train my hand to the placement of buttons on an unfamiliar remote control.  I find myself in between ANNOYANCE and CHALLENGE.  Annoyed at trying to find ESPN and CNN and challenged to find something decent on TV when I am away from my Tivo.

I do have to admit that I find myself watching more infomercials in hotel rooms then I ever would anywhere else in my life.  I also find myself going through every channel three or four times before I can settle in to something that I find adequate.  Really what I am trying to do is find the BEST show that is on.  I can't stand watching something that is adequate when there is the possibility of something BETTER on.

The whole travel experience does make me grateful when I do make my way home.  Grateful for the FAMILIARITY.

What things in your walk with God puts you between ANNOYANCE and CHALLENGE?

What parts of your faith are you really FAMILIAR with that you need to be reminded of from time to time by being stretched out of your comfort zone?

Maybe this is the year that you can go to CSM and be put between annoyance and challenge . . .

I don't know if you watch the new show, "Heroes."  It is about a bunch of individuals spread around the world who are trying to make a difference in the world.  They all have special powers.  Powers like being able to read minds, being able to fly, being able to heal themselves.  It is a pretty cools show.

Let me tell you about some of my heroes.  My heroes are the men and women who are giving of themselves to help our teens.  Our volunteers.  Them men and women who give of their Sunday mornings, Saturday nights,  and other times to teach, lead small groups, chaperone, etc.  These people are my heroes.  They inspire me to do better.  The encourage me that what I am doing matters.  Their love for you helps me to love you more.

There is a group of ten volunteers that are going to a training this Saturday to learn how to better help you guys in student ministry.  They are committed to spending some of their Saturday learning how to better minister to your needs.  How great is that?  This is how much your volunteers love and care for you. . . that they would take over half of their day off to get some skills and training that can help you!

So this Sunday, when you see some of your volunteers, say, "Thank You!" to them.  They are my heroes.

What you are doing with your Winter Break?

Are you sleeping a lot?

Are you watching some TV?

Playing a little XBox?

I am getting some family time in at the snow with some friends from church.  I love getting that one on one time on the chair lift with my girls.  The conversations that we have during those times going up the mountain are priceless.  Good old fashioned Quality Time.

Quality Time is an accident that happens during quantity time.

I hope that during this winter break that you can get some quality one on one time with your mom or dad.  Don't wait for them to do it.  You can take the lead.  Take them out for coffee or spring for a special breakfast if they have to work.  Ask your mom or dad how they are doing.  Learn more about what their job is all about.

I am hoping that you have some great time off this break.

.::Make your own mix CD for the Jukebox

I know that this week's Winter Break will find you sitting around doin' nothin' at least for SOME of the week.  So make yourself useful and express yourself through your music library.  Make your own CD for the Student Ministry Jukebox.

So when you come to Bible Class, Sanctuary, or any other Youth Group event, you can play some of your favorite tunes!  Here is also a way for you to leave a little bit of you behind.  We have space for 100 CDs.  So here is what you can do:

1.  Make your own mix CD:  Remember this is a church jukebox so only put songs with decent lyrics on it (I think that falls under the DUH category)  Also, Make sure each track you burn is a track you own.  Don't burn  music that you may have downloaded from one of those sketchy sites on the internet.

2.  Pick a number from 00-99 where you want your CD to go in the jukebox.  That way when you come into the Birch room you know exactly where YOUR CD is.

3.  Name Your Mix:  You can name your mix whatever you want.  Be creative and make it something that reflect WHO you are.

4.  Bring it to Youth Group:  We can't put your CD in if we don't have it.  Make sure you have a list of tracks on your CD so that we can make a card for the jukebox.

So go and do it now.

GROUP DATE NIGHT

What a BLAST Group Date Night was yesterday.  After some AWESOME advice from our sponsors as to how to date, who to date and who to be when you are dating.  We paired up into groups of about six and headed out to dinner at various places around the city.  We mixed everyone up so that they could get to know someone else in the group better.  We then all met up for some bowling in our fancy duds and had a blast.  We then headed out for coffee and had a great time hanging out together as a group.  We ended the evening with a great time of prayer for one another where the guys prayed for the girls, the girls prayed for the guys and the sponsors prayed for the students.  It was educational, entertaining, and a whole lotta fun.

Well fresh off the heels of Randy's sermon on Sunday, I am sitting in a jury waiting room wondering if I am going to be called to serve on a jury.  I have never had the opportunity to serve ona jury and kind of look forward ot the experience.  Except for today.  I am worried that I might get picked to serve and be stuck serving since we have a vacation to the snow scheduled and paid for next week that I do not want to have to cancel or lose the money for.  I am more than happy to reschedule my service time.  So we will wait and see what happens.  In the meantime, those of you who usually come to Audio Update, I will not be there, hence no Audio Show this week or next since next week is the winter break.
